Land forces: 950 000 people, 20 corps (1 armoured, 4 mechanized, 12 infantry, 2 artillery, 1 for defence of the capital), 27 infantry divisions, 15 tank and 14 mechanized brigades, 1 operative tactical rocket brigade, 35 artillery, 9 MLRS brigades, 1 tacticak rocket regiment. The special forces command (88 thousand people): 10 brigades of snipers, 12 light infantry brigades, 17 reconnaissance and airborne battalions. The reserve: 40 infantry divisions, 18 infantry brigades.

Arms: 30 operative tactical rockets, 24 tactical rockets, 4 060 tanks (T-34, T-55, T-59, T-62, PT-76), 2 500 armored troop carriers, 3 500 towed guns and 4 400 self-propelled artillery, 2 500 MLRS, 7 500 mortars, over 11 000 antiaircraft guns (of them about 3 000 are stationary), about 10 000 portable surface-to-air missile systems, antitank missile systems.

Air force: 86 000 people, 621 war-planes, 20 combat helicopters. Formations; 6 aviation divisions (one in each military district). Tactical units: 3 bomber regiments, 15 fighter and bomber air regiments and fighter regiments.
