Bofors Defence - developer of defence systems

Bofors Defence is a Swedish defence systems company wholly owned by United Defense.

This makes it strong on both the Swedish and the international markets as well as providing a transatlantic technology link for the future advanced systems. Apart from the company's end-to-end competence Bofors Defence's ambition is to be the global leader in intelligent ammunition and in many other areas of technologies.

Bofors Defence has a wide range of products that include mission-assigned systems for precision response as well as protection systems, ammunition and launchers.

About Bofors Defence

It is a Swedish company wholly owned by United Defense and has a workforce of about 500 of whom more than 50% are directly involved in R&D.

From having previously been a manufacturing company with its own development department it has entered a new phase.

After a 5-year period of restructuring it is now a company completely engaged in development and qualified assembly, without any production capacity.

In the area of R&D modeling and simulating activities are continuously increasing.

The Logistics and Assembly Operations Dept. is responsible for final assembly and final testing of those systems that are ready for delivery.

The Marketing Dept and Customer Support with worldwide operations are jointly responsibility for incomes and proceeds.

All information processing, strategic planning, quality and financing are treated as special functions.

Bofors History In Brief

Even before the Thirty-Years-War had come to an end Bofors was manufacturing its first products. It is now more than 350 years old and has been producing defence materiel for more than 100 years.

In 1894 Alfred Nobel acquired Bofors and started a time of new investments and modernization.

In the 1930s Bofors engineers developed the gun that was to play a decisive role in World War II - the Bofors 40 mm anti-aircraft gun.

Since then the company has created a number of epoch -making defence systems and new systems are continually being developed.

The name Bofors is respected throughout the world and Bofors' products are noted for quality, safety and reliability.

Land-based systems

40 mm IFV Turret. Rapid reaction system equipped with an advanced modular sight, fire control system and high precision 40 mm main armament with the 3P, APFSDS-T warshot solution, allowing it to defeat the pertaining threat and the threat of tomorrow.

TriAD. Autonomous, armoured air defence turret, primarily for operating at the forward edge of the battle area. It carries a 40 mm gun, advanced sensors, night-capable optronic sight and fire control system with threat evaluation. Along with the 3P and APFSDS-T round it can defeat many types of threat.

Tridon. High fire power, highly mobile 40 mm gun system with short reaction times and exceptional firing endurance. It is mounted on a 6x6 all-terrain chassis and can go almost anywhere.

155 Howitzer 77 BD L/45. Integrated with a 6x6 all-terrain vehicle this well-protected advanced artillery system has ranges exceeding 40 km. On the move it carries 24 rounds with fuzes and 42 charges. It fires both NATO standard rounds and the 155 BONUS and has multi-round simultaneous impact, MRSI, capability.
